It's been a few months since we sat and watched history change forever. It's a day that I will always remember and smile when I think about it. And maybe get a little chocked up, cuz as I said it's been a few months but still today my throat gets a little froggy and eyes a little watery than normal. But anyways, in January we welcomed the Obama family and put our faith and trust in a very intelligent and graceful man. I look forward to see what he brings through the years. And I am so proud of America for standing up for once and letting the world know we are ready for a change! I'm also so hopeful and delighted that my children will question what they are capable of reaching, because we can do and be anything we want, as long as we are respectable and hard working.
So I think of his speech, and this part always plays over and over in my head:
“What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility — a recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation, and the world, duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character, than giving our all to a difficult task.
This is the price and the promise of citizenship.”
So I ask myself daily, "what can I do?" And I have come up with a list. You'll see it unfold here as I will blog about it later when I am not rushing. But I have ideas, I have made commitments and I am trying to figure out ways my kids can also do a part to better their community, this country and the world. Their spirit is just as important as mine. I want giving back to be a part of them as a kid that when they grow up and become adults that it will be something they just do with out thinking about it.
So are you awake to what you can do? Here is President Obama’s website that helps you to find ways to help serve: Renew America Together
There are many ways to get involved and help. My oldest will be part of Youth Service Day this year and I am really proud of what he has decided to do. Of course more later, I have to still wrap my brain around it and figure out how to get what's in his head and make it a reality for him. :o)
Ok so this was to get you thinking of ways to giving back. Have a great weekend!
The following is by my 3 year old!
